For a small space and six bobbins: EEW 6.1. It measures 5 by 7.8 by 8 in, and Dreaming Robots lists it at $299 direct (31 Oct 2026).
To carry: EEW 6.1 or e-Spinner 3. The EEW weighs 3 lb (1.4 kg) and the e-Spinner 3 weighs 2 kg (4.4 lb). The Firefly weighs 13+ lb.
For speed: Firefly. It reaches 3200 rpm, against 1800 rpm for the Ashford and the EEW 6.1 and 820 rpm for the Jenn-E.
For a lot of yarn on one bobbin: Firefly. Its flyers run from 4A oz up to 64 oz. It lists at $1,395 with the 4A oz flyer (31 Oct 2026); larger flyers cost $1,445 to $1,795 by SpinOlution’s 2026 pricing.
For a choice of tension: Jenn-E. Louet offers Scotch or Irish tension, and Z or S direction with a neutral position. It lists at $1,057.35 (31 Oct 2026).
Ready to go, with a bag: e-Spinner 3. It comes assembled, with a foot switch, three jumbo bobbins and a padded carry bag. Check today’s price at Woolery.
Each maker’s page: Ashford, Dreaming Robots, SpinOlution, Louet. The Firefly price is SpinOlution’s smallest complete wheel (4A oz flyer, three bobbins); the base alone is $999. The Jenn-E price is from Louet’s USD price list.
Ashford e-Spinner 3
Image: Ashford
A 12 V DC, 2.0 amp motor gives variable speed up to 1800 rpm, with Scotch tension, at 2 kg (4.4 lb). It arrives assembled, in factory-lacquered beech.
The box holds three jumbo bobbins (225 g each), an on/off foot switch, a 12 V mains power cord, a tensioned lazy kate, a padded carry bag and a 15 mm to 9 mm reducer bush, which fits its 15 mm orifice.
Who it suits: a spinner who wants everything in one box and a 2 kg wheel that goes in a bag.
Owner reviews. Pattie, on her blog in 2024, was “totally thrilled” with her first plied yarn.
EEW 6.1 (Electric Eel Wheel)
Image: Dreaming Robots
Dreaming Robots lists a brushless motor, an 1800 rpm top speed, a 0.55 in (14 mm) orifice, 8 oz bobbins and six bobbins in the box. It measures 5 in wide by 7.8 in long by 8 in high and weighs 3 lb, with a foot switch and a wall power supply.
It lists at $299 direct (31 Oct 2026). The six bobbins and small footprint suit a small space. Its orifice is a little narrower than the Ashford’s 15 mm, so check it against the thickest yarn you plan to spin.
Who it suits: a spinner short on space, or someone who wants a second wheel to travel with.
Owner reviews. The Rousette blogger, writing in 2024, bought hers because she has no room for a treadle wheel, and calls it “easy to set up, change bobbins and so on”. You can buy direct from Dreaming Robots.
SpinOlution Firefly
Image: SpinOlution
SpinOlution lists a DC 10 watt motor, a 3200 rpm top speed, a variable speed knob, a 12 V battery with a 14-hour life, and a Baltic birch plywood body. It’s 22 in wide and 10 in deep, and 12 to 24 in high depending on flyer size. It weighs 13+ lb with an 8 oz empty bobbin.
It’s modular: flyers come in 4A, 8, 16, 32 and 64 oz, and three bobbins come with it. At 13+ lb (about 5.9 kg) and $1,395 (list price, 31 Oct 2026), what you get is speed and range of yarn, more than something to carry.
Who it suits: a spinner who wants one wheel for both very fine and very bulky yarn, and will pay extra for larger flyers.
Owner reviews. Ingrid McMasters, a dealer who sells and spins on it, told Spin Off in 2018 that it spins from very fine to very thick, and that the battery runs about 12 hours. SpinOlution’s Firefly page has the details.
Louet Jenn-E
Louet lists an 820 rpm top speed, a manual dial for variable speed, Scotch or Irish tension, Z or S direction with neutral, and a battery cable. A carry bag comes with it, and the list price is $1,057.35 (31 Oct 2026). Your dealer can tell you the weight, orifice and bobbin size of the version you want.
At 820 rpm it has the lowest top speed here.
Who it suits: a spinner who wants to choose between Scotch and Irish tension on a motorized wheel. See Louet’s Jenn-E page.
Look elsewhere if
You want a treadle’s rhythm. All four are motor-driven. A first treadle wheel may suit you better.
You want to spin away from an outlet, out of the box. The Firefly comes with a battery (14 hours). The Ashford and EEW 6.1 come with mains supplies, and the Jenn-E with a battery cable.
You want the highest top speed. The 820 rpm Jenn-E and the 1800 rpm Ashford and EEW sit well below the Firefly’s 3200 rpm.
Your budget is under $299. The EEW 6.1 lists at $299, the Jenn-E at $1,057.35 and the Firefly at $1,395 (31 Oct 2026), so none of those three fits. See today’s Ashford price at Woolery.
